More Pics: Brian and
Well, Brian and Melanie got hitched, even though they were constantly reminded by their friends and family (that’s you Bob) that they could bail at any time. Too late now, though — the pictures are up on the internet which, other than the wedding license, is infallible proof that you’re stuck together.
Clicketh the picture here for the rest of our photos, plus Amanda’s and some from the rehersal dinner… all sorts!
Congratulations guys!
By the way, if anyone else has pics they’d like share, just e-mail me (chip@chiplynch.com)

Bachelors Camping, Fishing… Not your Usual Fare
With the upcoming Nuptials of Mr. and Soon-to-be-Mrs. Helfrich, comes the necessary Bachelor/Bachelorette outings. Brian, being the unique and extraordinary guy he is, shied away from the traditional voyeuristic fare, and decided to embrace nature in a less “as-nature-made-you” sort of way.
So we went camping boating and fishing for this one of us need to have a boating license, but we could get one thanks to the aceboater site online. Most of the lakes support healthy populations of bluegills, redear sunfish, and largemouth bass. Bass densities are high in most of the waters, and in 2013, the Ohio Division of Wildlife instituted a 14- to 20-inch slot limit. Anglers are allowed to keep two fish under 14 inches and one fish over 20 inches, using the proper equipment from Tailored Tackle. While bass in the 6- to 7-pound range are not uncommon, the goal of the slot limit is to recruit even more quality fish. Bluegills in the 8- to 10-inch range can also be found at many of the ponds.
And we learned a few things about dogs. First, if you’re drowning, but can still grip a dog’s tail, you should be OK if Ramsi is around:
Next, if you should be fishing, do NOT let Ramsi in the water, because retrievers like to retrieve things… like bobbers.
Otherwise, lay back, drink, and enjoy yourself and the company of others. Hope you enjoyed yourself as much as we did, Brian! For more pics, click the pic below, or click here for pics from Tim’s camera.

Birthdays, Bears, and Meteor Showers
The perseid meteor showers peak around this time of year… August 12th, by most reckonings, which you’ve now missed. We went out and watched it on the 11th after celebrating Brian Brakas’ (and of course Debbie Metzger’s even though she wasn’t there) birthday at Dave and Busters in Cincinnati. Caesar Creek state park near here actually had some viewing set up on their beach, but, since we didn’t look online, we ended up about a half mile away in a completely other-person-free wildlife sanctuary. Gorgeous night, and in the couple of hours we spent there we saw 18 or so great meteors between Ang and I.
Speaking of birthdays (you got the Dave and Busters’ bit in that last paragraph, right?) — Angela has some coverage of Kory’s birthday party over on her blog. I’d have more pictures up, but of course my camera died and Ang’s is a lot harder to carry around. I’ll let you know when I get around to replacing it.
Oh, right, and due to the huge number of tickets you can win playing the Monopoly game at Dave and Busters (thanks Brian and Michelle for pointing that out), we took home a HUGE white bear. Don’t tell Ang I told you, though.

hard drive woes
So, my mom’s computer is dead, due to a dead primary hard drive. On top of that, while moving files from my laptop to an external drive because my laptop was filling up, I fried the external drive. D’oh. One of the chips started smouldering and shining bright red. That’s bad for a computer part, right? Right.
Icky-poo. So I’ve decided to bite the bullet and send the thing to a drive repair shop. I’m actually a BIT happy about it because I had ANOTHER hard drive die a few years ago that had stuff from 10 years earlier backed up on it, so I’m sending that out too, just to see what I can recover. Free estimates, that’s good, but if it comes back $1700 bucks or so, which is eminently possible, I may say bye-bye to my data.
Aackphbt. I MUST implement a proper backup mechanism. In fact, I WAS implementing one, but things are no good when your drive failures occur during/because of your backup routine.
Learn from my mistakes. Backup now! Follow Brian Schmidt’s example… you can get a decent computer online these days that cost like $300 and run faster than the main computer I’m running now, video card notwithstanding. Buy three… set up a redundant SAN… love life.

Chicago, Harry Potter
So we were in Chicago last weekend… Angela has more (and better) coverage of the blessed event. Note that while we WERE at the Taste of Chicago, we did NOT, apparently, eat here.
Also, we saw Harry Potter on opening night. Very good; if you’re a fan of the series, you’re going to see it anyway, so I don’t have to convince you, and if you’re not, then there’s no point in seeing it because you probably haven’t seen the other four, besides which the books are still better (although the books don’t have the cool noises, special effects, nor cool pictures of Tonks). I still claim Transformers is the better movie for the summer thus far, but Order of the Phoenix was worth seeing.
